'Unfit' motorist found asleep in car at petrol pump

A MAN who had driven whilst 'unfit' told police who found him sleeping in a vehicle beside a petrol pump at a forecourt in Antrim town he was there to get 'munchies'.

Adrian Anthony Matthew Reid (34), of Tiger Court, was detected at the Maxol garage on the town's Ballymena Road on June 16 this year.

A prosecutor told Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena (main picture), staff saw a vehicle clip a kerb at the forecourt.

Police found the defendant "asleep" in the vehicle at 11.45pm and when they woke him he said he had driven there to get 'munchies'.

Substances in his blood included Diazepam.

The prosecutor said the defendant admitted he had taken more than his usual amount of his prescribed medication "due to the death of his sister".

The defendant was banned from driving for a year and fined £250.
