Van veered across white line into path of oncoming vehicle towing a caravan near Millisle

A VAN veering across a white line as a vehicle pulling a caravan approached in the opposite direction at Moss Road near Millisle was captured on dashcam and now a motorist has been given three penalty points and a £100 fine for driving without due care and attention.

The defendant is Robert Algie (59), of Kincraig Avenue, Belfast.

Newtownards Magistrates' Court (main picture) was shown dashcam footage from the other motorist's vehicle which showed the defendant's van briefly veer across the centre line before pulling back in with no collision.

District Judge Amanda Brady said the incident would have "caused alarm" to the other driver who fortunately was "able to cope with what was coming at" them.

The judge added: "I wouldn't have liked to be the driver of the other vehicle. It is at the lower end of the scale but it is still careless driving".
