Woman (48) 'dug nails' into police officer's arm after being arrested for driving whilst unfit

A 48-year-old woman who admitted charges including driving whilst unfit and assaulting police after witnesses saw her vehicle hit a grass verge at Ballymena has been put on Probation for a year and banned from the roads for 16 months.

Caroline Brown, of Mossvale Park, Ballygowan, committed offences on July 3, 2021.

When arrested she attempted to open the door of a police car and dug her nails into an officer's arm.

She failed to provide a breath sample.

A defence barrister said the defendant who had lived in the United Arab Emirates for a time wished to apologise for her behaviour.

He said the defendant had been using "alcohol as a crutch" since the death of her husband earlier in 2021.

District Judge Nigel Broderick told Ballymena Magistrates Court it had been "appalling" behaviour.
