Woman spat on and lobbed glass mug at police officers who were trying to help her in County Antrim

A WOMAN spat on a police officer and threw a glass mug at another after they had spent "considerable time" with her following a call for help.

Dagmar Buresova (31), of Queen Street in Ballymena, admitted assaulting two police officers on November 30 last year.

A prosecutor told Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, the defendant spat on an officer.

When the saliva landed on body armour the defendant tried to wipe it off with her jumper sleeve but ended up smearing it.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had been "unwell" at the time and there had been "no repetition" of the incident.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said for such incidents he normally sends people to jail but said every case had to be decided on its own facts.

He said a pre-sentence report showed the defendant was not suitable for Community Service and he handed down a three months prison term, suspended for a year.
